My goal is to train so that I can finish Ironman Florida '14 in under 10 hours. I finished in 10:12 and 10:14 respectively in '08 and '09. I haven't finished an Ironman since. I don't train like I used to. Not even close. Don't plan on it either. But think based on experience and a base built up over several years now, it is attainable. I plan to swim in 1:10; ride 5 hours, and run 3:40. This is my journey....
The rest days were scheduled on purpose. I didn't want to have a regimented schedule at this stage of my training (1-4 weeks from my last Ironman). I wanted the rest days mainly for mental recovery but I think it probably helped my body recover as well.
I agree. You'll see very few days in my schedule with no training. Apart from the first week past the Ironman-the last four weeks--I've only had 4 complete rest days. From hereonin, my schedule only calls for a complete rest day every 4th week.
Too many rest days. You should probably go super easy and do something on those days.

ReplyDeleteActive recovery is better. Even 20 minute easy swim or bike
