ironboom,

i was much like you last year (27 age grouper). I trained all 2007 to break 9 hours at IMF 2007. I really had the fitness to do this and was very motivated. Our training was very similar, i think i was around 300 bike, 50 run and 22,000 swim for the last 7 weeks. I got out of the water in 56, at mile 20 on the bike I had my first flat tire, at mile 22 my second flat tire, also my power meter never worked during the race which all my bike training was based around. I got assistance on the second flat but it cost me around 15 minutes total. I continued my race as planed and ended up 9:36.

I have not done a tri since then and have only done bike races. One year removed from the event I am getting married, back to my professional career (golf) and could not be any happier. That being said I learned more from that one day and the preparation leading up to the race. You will be a better person as a result of all your hard work and it doesn't matter if you were overtrained or not but that you were willing to give everything to reach you goals. Continue that approach to life and there is no doubt that you will break 10 hours and do many other great things. Good luck in the future and keep training :)
