My goal is to train so that I can finish Ironman Florida '14 in under 10 hours. I finished in 10:12 and 10:14 respectively in '08 and '09. I haven't finished an Ironman since. I don't train like I used to. Not even close. Don't plan on it either. But think based on experience and a base built up over several years now, it is attainable. I plan to swim in 1:10; ride 5 hours, and run 3:40. This is my journey....

Thursday: 42 mile bike; 10 mile run
42 mile bike. 2:02. 210w. Recovery effort.
Followed by a 10 mile brick run. 1:15:06. 7:26min/mi
awesome run! How'd that feel? U didn't lose the fitness and was probably good for you to be sick. Do a few more confidence runs like that and you're ready for Florida. You'll do 1:07 swim, crush the bike, conservative first half marathon and the lay it all out there on the run. Leave nothing left in you to cross the line.
Thanks, Charles. I agree with your strategy and that is how I plan to race--conservative first half marathon and then give it everything I have.
I was definitely happy with the run. I felt great. Runnings (especially off the bike) is my favorite part of Ironman. I only wish I was able to get more miles in. I'm afraid that my legs will give out before my cardiovascular system does just because I don't have the running volume. But I think you are right that with a few more confidence runs, I should be ok. Thanks for the encouragement.
